Doing problems is key for the retention of the vast material. Its how the brain works. For some it works better, for some to a lesser extent. Proven in various studies. I am damn sure that it was not complete waste of time for you too, Vicky. The only question might be: should you go with another provider? Is the wait worthwile for Elan?

Or is their Qbank not vast enough? I havent decided yet. But will approach the exam in a different style. Repetition through questions, while I am reading the material.

Cfa

Not only EOC’s and blue/grey box but also some practice questions and mocks on specific areas along the way. Will see how it turns out and whether the retention level will be enough to pass.

From what i have read on the forum, Qbank for L2 is not as useful as L1 but not completely useless. It can used to drill concepts but not for practicing exam type questions. I think you may be misinterpreting the point Vicky is trying to make which is very valid.

Of course anything that helps drill CFA concepts and curriculum into your head is better than doing nothing. But I would have to agree that the Qbank is NEXT to useless for Level II.

It is significantly more productive to do mock exams/EOC questions. A tricky part of the exam is getting used to the full item set style of questions so the more of these style of questions you are able to do the better. Also Qbank has very few of these style of questions and when they do it is highly different in terms of the layout of the questions as the CFAI ones. I found it almost counterproductive because the style of Qbank item set questions follow a very logical process with very few “red herrings” in them and are significantly shorter in length and generally difficulty than CFAI practice ones. If you want to “drill concepts” it is better to flow through examples in the curriculum ( or otherwise) because I feel like Qbank can get you into some bad habits.

I started with Qbank and when transitioning to full CFAI item set questions I was getting alot wrong due to not paying enough detail and reading through the whole question. Just my long winded way of saying I agree with Vicky though.

IsThereAny wrote: Disagree. Just don’t use them as core prep.

They’re beneficial if used to hammer home key concepts. +1.it entirely depends on an individual’s preference and method of studying.

Even though the style of questions is not the vignette type, eventually what matters is your ability to interpret and understand what the question is specifically asking for, and work the answer. The vignettes on the actual exam provide you with data basis which you have to answer the questions (and usually the paragraphs in the vignette correspond to the order of questions). The vignettes are not designed to confuse you, they are there to give the relevant data so as to aid you in solving the questions that follow. So what you really need is a firm grasp of the concepts (which does a fair job of providing) and lots of practice (mock exams/ Q bank). I solely relied on for L1 and L2, and it really depends on your potential as to how you make use of the Qbank or any other exam.To each his own. I wasted 1 month out of the 5 months in L2 prep on it Just do CFA book examples+ End questions + mock exams (6 minimum) You will pass easily I heard about this exam while I was at my relative’s place in US. Now that I am back to India, I am reconsidering whther I should register or not. I have skimmed through the syllabus once and it is not very easy on the onset, like most people say. Its a complete waste of time. I wasted 1 month out of the 5 months in L2 prep on it Just do CFA book examples+ End questions + mock exams (6 minimum) You will pass easily Please suggest the best way out to crack L1. I am done with Schewser’s notes once, but I can’t recall. in FRA and Econ. Help me out @vickycool400. Pro Bank bahut lengthy hai aur itna recall kar pana mushkil hai. Is it worth the time?

For level I, their question bank is good. But before moving to question bank, you should solve all the end of chapter problems from the main curriculum books.

It is normal to forget about FRA and Economics. You need to revise those stuff 2-3 times for retaining. Do not focus too much on Economics as its weight is 10% and its syllabus is almost equal to the syllabus of FRA. Concentrate more on FRA, Ethics, QM and FIS. Apply common sense in Economics. Thank you “Sir” / With the blessings of Sir Jadeja, I’ll definitely crack L1. Sir, what to do for ethics? For level 1 you can read, do a tonne of q bank questions during study and revision and then a tonne of mocks and most people will pass without even opening the box with cfai cirriculum.

For level 2, the qbank is useful for refreshing areas but it isn’t the golden ticket that it is for level 1. In my opinion, do an awful job creating item sets, they just don’t bear even the slightest resemblence to cfai eoc, mock or actual exam item sets. Use the intermediate and hard questions in l2 q bank to drill topics or individual los you’re struggling with but don’t take any notice of your scores. You could easily hit 80% in every qbank quiz you do from jan to may and start doing mocks and totally flunk them. Blackjack21 wrote: With the blessings of Sir Jadeja, I’ll definitely crack L1. Sir, what to do for ethics? Ethics has a weight of 15% and the syllabus is relatively small.

It is very important because of ‘Ethics Adjustment’ as well. It can make or break when one is on borderline. It looks very easy but can be dicey. Practice is the key. Revise it 2-3 times from the curriculum book. There are 7 Standards of Professional Conduct.

Make those part of your life. One standard for every day of week. Revision of Ethics during last days of preparation is very important. Most of the guys do it at the end. But one can panic at the end. So, it’s always better to cover it at least once one month before the exam. Practice all the questions from /CFAI books and previous mock exams (if you can get hold of those).

There can be few one liners questions with straight forward answers as well in the exam. So, knowing the curriculum inside-out is very important. If you decide to study only one subject from the CFAI books, let it be Ethics. Q bank is only useful when you’re trying to check if you understand the concepts correctly. It’s no where near the real questions you would encounter on the real exam. CFAI questions are written by the same group of ppl who made the exams. Therefore, it makes a lot more sense to do the CFAI questions than wasting time on doing q bank. Dennis, what is it about theses blogs that make you guys invest a substantial amount of time to write down interesting sounding stories. I read through the Amazon-Costco example and think I just wasted some precious time, that I should have used on Equity instead.

I quite liked it - don’t get me wrong. There was another fellow, that spend like 1’000 hours on Level 1, posted all his flashcards, advices, spreadsheets. And a copy of his CV. Passed L1 but never made it pass L2 (muskie).

And this other quite active guy had a website too (Alladin). Hope he made it to the charter this time around. The question to all of you out there: do you guys do that to put something interesting on your resume? Is it because its fun to you?

I dont get it. From what I was able to tell, you never include any new findings, just seems the write up of what has already been told by other sources. Thanks for letting me know!
